Cougar Mountain picnic

On Tuesday we went to Anti-Aircraft Peak on Cougar Mountain for a picnic. There is a lovely gazebo overlooking Lake Sammamish. It's 1400' elevation so you can see almost the whole lake and a glimpse of Mt. Baker.

Cougar Mountain played a role during World War II when anti-aircraft guns were installed to protect Seattle. The gun bases were upgraded to Nike missile and radar sites during the Cold War. (source) Now it is just one of the trail heads to the beautiful 3,000 acre park.

I would like to go back again when we have more time to hike. It's only about 1.5 miles from this trail head to our apartment, so this would be an easy day hike. This time we only were able to hike for about 15 minutes because the girls were under the weather and we had to get home for a much needed nap.
